Playing with My Food - Evolved Mommy
Let’s talk about my new Cuisinart Food Processor for a second. First, its important to say that I was raised in a house with no Food Processor and I’ve never owned one. Never thought I needed one.
This whole thing came about because I have a strong desire to be a natural & organic parent to my coming baby. I’m no organic saint today, though, so I can’t guarantee that I’ll do great, but I really want to try. It only seems reasonable to make your own baby food. Small quantities of ground up fresh veggies and fruits; how hard can it be, really?
So, once we decided that we would give homemade baby food a shot we had to decide between two options:
1. The Beaba Babycook

2. A traditional food processor

The Baeba cooks and prepares your baby food which is nice, but baby food is its only purpose. I’m not one for arbitrarily adding kitchen appliances, especially since our kitchen is not very big. The Baeba is a small appliance (between the size of a minichopper and a food processor), but its another electrical appliance. I guess if it did more than one thing I’d be more likely to buy it.
Anyway, we went with the food processor because it will help with baby food prep, and it does so many other things. We picked Cuisinart because its the most recognized name & looks the best. Looks are important b/c its big and its going to have to stay out. Since I’ve had it home (about 4 days) I’ve used it everyday. It’s my new favorite thing. Today, I’m going to attempt my FAVORITE summer dish: Gazpacio (cold tomato & cucumber soup).
I’m still not exactly sure how to use it for baby food. My best guess is that you cut the veggies in the food processor, cook them in a steamer then return them to the food processor to grind up.
I do love the Beaba. Its great looking and we may end up with one if the food processor is not efficient with baby food. However, I’m glad we got the food processor b/c it has made dinner time so much easier. Yesterday, I shredded an entire block of chedder in under 30 seconds. Fantastic!
One Beaba item that looks to be a MUST HAVE no matter how you make your food is the Freezer Tray. You just pour the baby food in, throw it in the freezer, then when you’re ready for a section you just pop it out to defrost. Very cool.

cook them until almost mush and THEN puree in the processor
I LOVE MY CUISINART!!!!
The good news is that you will have quite a bit of time before you need to prep foods for my first niece! I did this for Ashley and I used a mini food processor… IT WAS PERFECT! Tiny and very handy! I used it for many other small kitchen tasks like chopping nuts or mint… Just another option – and oh so easy to store and clean! Luv ya!
How cool! Ive thought about making my own baby food, but have just been too lazy. I may decide to do it just yet! I love that you can control exactly what goes in it, so you know just what your baby is eating!

OK now I totally want a food processor, but for myself, not to make baby food. All natural and organize, eh? Lucky kid. My tyke’s gonna get Gerber and Hostess.
Fantastic site, I really like your writing style. Very distinctive and easy to follow. On a lot of blogs people just drone on and on, but not you – very nice. Keep up the excellent work! I love visiting other sites about raising a baby! It seems like there is constantly new things to learn about it. I don’t have time to read it all right now, I found this site when looking for something else on ask.com, but I’ve bookmarked your homepage and will visit again soon. Please visit at http://www.MommaCommuneBoutique.com and let me know what you think of it. Thanks again for a well-written web site.
[...] friend Katy and I met for dinner tonight and she asked me what my top five “must buy organic” items are. We both have toddlers and finding healthy foods that they will eat is not easy. [...]
