I Like Hymns - Evolved Mommy
I do not like to read my songs in church off a huge screen with fancy powerpoint.
I like hymns…out of a hymnal.
Just because I’m young(ish) doesn’t mean I want to listen to a praise band. Give me a choir, especially if they are in robes, any day.
It seems this is becoming increasingly and frustratingly hard to find.
We’ve been on the hunt for a church home since I moved to this area two years ago. Finally, we’ve found one that feels like home, and now they are sending out “Vision Teams” to visit other churches with the intent of learning how to conduct a contemporary service. ACK!
Dear Jesus,
Please keep my new church traditional. Please don’t let them put big screens in the sanctuary. We’re Methodist for goodness sake.
Amen

I hear you! Folks don’t know hymns anymore! It’s a shame.
And everyone assumes that the young people don’t like hymns anymore. Not true at all and I’ve got the friends to prove it!
One of my favorites: “I Know That My Redeemer Lives” (GORGEOUS!)
I’m with you sort of on this one. I like hymns and not a big fan of using a screen all the time in a traditional sanctuary. I myself am young just like you. I wish everyone would stop with the stereotyping. However, I’m not a complete and total traditionalist (not saying that you are, cause I don’t know you but I sense that you are, could be wrong though) because I also like contemporary worship when it is done well. Additionally, I love emerging or ancient-future worship. I’m one of those people with a multiple worship style disorder. I can truly be comfortable in all styles of worship. With that said, there are those certain times of the year when it must be traditional.
I suppose I am a complete traditionalist. Although, I’m working on opening my heart and my mind to new things. I just really like the traditional music better than the contemporary. It doesn’t help that I associate contemporary music with fundamentalist messages.
