What Does a Blog Conference Look Like? - Evolved Mommy
UPDATE: For the links to the blogs of all of the fabulous LR CheeseburgHers go here.
Not this. This is a satellite party, but it’s the closest I’m getting to a blog conference this year, so I’ll take it! And it was a blast.
Officially, it was CheeseburgHer10.
The Story of CheeseburgHer:
The Cheeseburgher tradition began as a late night snack run at the 2007 Blogher conference in Chicago. McDonald’s cheeseburgers were eaten, paper bags were worn on heads, pictures were taken, and well, a social media legend was born.
The Invite:
Now an official Blogher event, sponsored by McDonald’s, Cheeseburgher is too big for even New York City to contain.
Consequently, you’re invited to a Little Rock Cheeseburgher party, timed to conincide with the main event happening at Blogher on Saturday, August 7. It’s not only going to be a blast, it’s a chance for us to get to know each other a little better and raise the profile of Little Rock’s women blogger community.
Wine, soft drinks, and of course, cheeseburgers will be provided. Be sure to bring your cameras — photos of bloggers having earnest conversations while wearing paper bags* on their heads, are a hallowed Blogher tradition!
How could I resist?! Nevermind the fact that the invite came from Kyran Pittman, the very cool author of Notes To Self.
Oh, and I had to drive a mere THREE hours to get there. Right. Because I have nothing else to do. Well, really I didn’t have anything else to do. So I left the baby with the husband and headed down the mountain for a swanky get together of fabulous women on the rooftop of one of the most beautiful buildings in Little Rock, where we would eat cheeseburgers.
Right before I left town a good friend called about something totally unrelated, but I seized the opportunity. See, this friend is the founder of Bath Junkie. Yes, the really awesome place where you go and mix your own bath products and add your own custom scents. DEVINE! I asked if she’d want to contribute any swag and, of course, she said yes. Score!
I met some great women, whom I feel honored to now call friends. True to the invitation there was much laughter (mostly thanks to Kerri Case, author of Damn You, Little Rock), lots of shenanigans and a few bag-adorned heads.
These types of events feed the soul of the true blogger. The support and love flows freely (as does the liquor). For me, blogging is both liberating and terrifying. So to meet other women, especially those in my own backyard, who are doing the same thing and feeling the same feelings recharges my batteries.
If you can get to a blogging related event, no matter how big or small, GO!

p.s. I still haven’t figured out what the hell is going on with my links, but I’m too tired to deal with it tonight. Hopefully, I’ll figure it out tomorrow.
Great fun had by all!
I totally missed this … and am totally bummed. (But glad to find some other Arkansas bloggers!)
I am ready for the next one, who’s hosting?!
Links are fixed! YAY!!!
A great time was had by ALL, Shell.
Jane, you’ll have to catch the next one.
LaTonya, come up the mountain to NWA and I’ll totally host.
Looks like it was a great party:)
Yes, it was a great time!! Loved meeting all. C
It was so wonderful to see you!
We need to plan a NWA Tweetup–Road trip for all of the central AR folks.
(You do have enough room for us to all shack up, right?)
Looks like a really fun time! I need to find some wacky women to hang with.
While we didn’t have the swag filled event, I did attend a really cool event called BOLO (Blog Out Loud Ottawa) in June this year. Some fantastic writers got up and read their favorite post from the past year. No cheeseburger bags on the head, but still a good time.
This is awesome!
I’m one of the hostesses of the CheeseburgHer Party and this is making me all verklempt.
Thank you for embracing the specialness and spirit of the CheeseburgHer tradition!
