A Mom's View: Verizon Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 4G LTE - Evolved Mommy

Recently I was given a Verizon Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 4G LTE to review. First of all, yes, I know that name is a lot of numbers and junk. Don’t worry about that for now.
Here’s what you need to know.
For Moms:
Top 10 Key Features of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 4G LTE
1. Size Matters.
This little 7″ gadget fits very easily into any handbag. The Samsung is like the mama bear in my iPad (papa bear), Kindle (baby bear) and Galaxy Tab (mama bear) family.
2. She’s Pretty
Sleek gadgets are my thing, and the Samsung Galaxy Tab is gorgeous. She’s thin, light (just 12 ounces) and lovely.
3. Lite Brite
The screen is incredibly sharp and clear. I’m sure there’s some technical jargon about why, but that’s neither here nor there. The screen is wonderfully easy to see and read.
4. Social Butterfly
This device has something called a “social hub” that aggregates your Facebook and Twitter feeds. I could watch that thing all day.
5. Battery Life
The tech site Engadget recently reported that they let the Samsung Galaxy Tab play 12 hours of video non-stop to exhaust the battery. Now that’s impressive for a mom like me who can barely remember to charge plug a smartphone in at the end of the day.
6. e-Reader + Tablet + Camera
When you add up these three gadgets alone the price is much easier to justify.
7. Speed
This is where that 4G part comes in. The Samsung Galaxy Tab uses the sexy Verizon network, known for getting stuff done in wireless.
8. Price
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 is spendy. See point 6 and add this fancy toy to your holiday wish list.
9. Portability
Fits easily in every handbag, short of a wristlet.
10. MY FAVORITE: Photo editing
Instantly take a screen shot of any by tapping the button in the bottom right.
So what?
As soon as you do, the image opens (seemlessly, I should add) with a photo editing menu where you can write with your finger or select a key piece of the image. This is probably only useful to tweens for the most part, but I find it absolutely entertaining.
Bottom line:
Who is the Verizon Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 4G LTE for
Busy moms will love the purse-sized portability, extreme clarity, connection speed, beautiful design and organizational features of this gadget.
If you are planning to use a tablet device to replace a laptop, however, this is probably not the right product . While you can browse easily, get on social sites, keep a calendar, read “50 Shades of Grey” incognito and take pictures at gymnastics class, I did not find it easy to create/edit documents, share files or move quickly between different types of tasks.
Doing Good
If you didn’t see my recent post about the newly launched Verizon Hopeline please check it out. The Hopeline is a powerful tool for victims of domestic violence. If you know someone in a bad situation do what you can to help, even if it’s just mentioning the Hopeline.

So if you are going for something to be a laptop replacement when out with clients and such, would you say the iPad is a good fit? I hate lugging my laptop everywhere, but the expense of the iPad keeps holding me back. However…the chiropractor expenses would likely drop.
You could absolutely use an iPad when you go out to work with clients. My only frustration point with the iPad is this: some sites (including Facebook & Twitter) will not let you opt out of viewing the mobile version from the iPad. The other day at BlogHer I really wanted to show someone the layout of a Twitter profile, but was completely unable to do it.
