Holiday Gift Guide: for Moms - Evolved Mommy
‘Tis the season. Guys: pay attention here. These are the things your s.o. (please email me if you don’t know what this means) wants. These are the best Christmas gifts for moms (or just women, we don’t discriminate against to the dog- or cat-lovin’ ladies out there who are not interested in sippy cups and sleepless nights).
Tech-friendly Cashmere gloves: Portolano $38
Because you need to make a call and your fingers are so frozen the iPhone doesn’t understand they are actually part of a real human body. Also, mama loves a little cashmere. These are a blend of fibers, so the feel like cashmere, but the price isn’t painful.
Smart pen: Wacom Bamboo Stylus $30
Sometimes a girl just needs to write. I have always loved taking notes and this is the BEST tool for doing that on an iPad. There are others. Don’t bother. This one.
Oh, and doodling. I love to doodle. Check out the Paper by Fifty Three app. It’s cool for mom, but some of the best creations on Paper have been from my three-year-old Charlie. She’s an artistic genius in abstract watercolor y’all.
Kitchen iPad mount: Belkin Cabinet Mount $49.99
Remember that AWESOME video I did about putting your iPad in a ziploc bag? Yeah, it turns out there are other, better options. Whatevs.
There are several options out there, but I love the Belkin Cabinet Mount because it doesn’t use any counter space and because my iPad is closer to eye level.
A Very pretty iPhone 5 Case: Case-mate Tortoiseshell – $40
Assuming she’s already got the iPhone 5, I love this Tortoiseshell case from Case-mate. Here is my entire iPhone 5 case roundup.
Tablet: iPad Mini – $559 for 32GB Wi-Fi + Cellular
This little gadget is creating quite a bit of buzz. I was skeptical because of the size, but it seems that’s one of the biggest selling features. It’s the size of other e-readers, but does so much more. Super fast internet access, FaceTime, great battery life, beautiful design, apps apps apps and more. If you’re going to do it, I recommend 32GB to make sure you have enough space for your apps, photos and music. I also recommend Wi-Fi + cellular because it’s no fun to only be able to use your iPad at home. It defeats the purpose.
You are welcome to consider a Surface, but my suggestion would be to wait a couple years on that one and see how it plays out. I’ve tested on and liked it, but still think it’s best to wait and see.
Phone: Samsung Galaxy S III – $199 with 2-year contract
This is the first phone that has even caught my attention that isn’t an iPhone. If you like the Android operating system, or you just aren’t into iPhones go with this one. She’s pretty y’all. And fast. So… she’s my kind: fast, cheap and easy. 😉
This year three of my friends wrote books, and all are about parenting. These three funny, blunt, open women inspire me, and I think their books are the best gifts for friends, teachers or family members.
