Evolving List of Why iPad

Macworld Sept 2010 Centerfold

This month’s issue (September 2010… hello? When I received it August wasn’t even here yet) of Macworld features a two-page centerfold of a women laying on a blanket in a park presumably reading on her iPad. She’s not a supermodel, just a regular girl. Like you and me. It was so refreshing to see this image in a magazine I normally just skim because it’s so guy-geared.

The article is about how the iPad has affected the whole life of those who own one. And it has.

Except for blogging (which I occasionally do on the iPad) I rarely open my MacBook these days. And my iPhone has been relegated to just making phone calls and taking pictures (yes, it’s an iPhone 4… remember, I’m married to a Mac addict).

When my hubby first mentioned the iPad more than a year ago I thought, “Oh great. Another freaking expensive toy that he is going to HAVE TO have. Awesome.”

Can you hear the sarcasm?

At that time we had no idea what it would be called or if it really even existed. His geeky gadget blogs were abuzz, but Apple is pretty serious about their secrets (lol). Who knew it would end up with such a feminine-napkiny name?

No matter.

Of course we pre-ordered ours and Read More

Fancy Up Your Blog With Plugins

July 25, 2010 | | 6 Comments

What is a plugin:

It’s a piece of code, written by someone who knows how to do that sort of thing.

Add a plugin to your blog to make it do fancy things such as:

  • allow readers to “like”, “digg” and/or “tweet” your article
  • allow readers to follow you on twitter
  • automatically respond to first time commenters with a heartfelt “Thanks!”
  • block spam commenters
  • make your blog more likely to appear in search results
  • See that cute little twitter bird at the top right of this page? Or the social media buttons to the right? Those are plugins.

Plugins allow writers to what they do best. Most writers have no desire to get an advanced degree in programming just to make their blogs look decent and act professional. We are grateful to those who do.

      WordPress Plugin Screen

Whether you are using Blogger or WordPress there are plugins available. In WordPress you’ll see a “Plugins” option on the left sidebar. Under that option select “Add New” and from there you can search for anything. It’s ridiculously simple.

Whatever it is you are after is probably out there. Also, look at other blogs you like. If there’s something fancy going on it’s probably a plugin. You can contact that blog. Some will tell you what they have. Some will not. But if you search you’ll probably find it anyway.

Here’s a good list of ┬áMUST HAVE plugins to get you started: Read More

Nine Reasons Why Every Mommy Blogger Needs an iPhone 4

If you think you don’t need the new iPhone 4 you are WRONG. Now, my definition of a “need” might be a little skewed, but who cares.

Also, if you married a geek (like I did), move along. You’ve already … Read More

    The Blogger Room

So I went to my first blog conference this weekend and had so much fun. Finally, I’m not the nerdiest in the group somewhere. WOOHOO!
Okay, and let me just say…I freakin’ love these people. They make me feel totally stupid, but that’s okay.
